Kfar Kama was awarded by the United
Nations Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
inclusion into the exclusive list of tourist
villages that are recommended to be visited.
The purpose of the prestigious competition,
which was held in 2022 for the second time
in a row, is to leverage rural tourism—with
a desire to preserve the rural and touristic
landscape of settlements with up to 15
thousand inhabitants.
According to the United Nations, the importance
of promoting touristic villages stems from the
desire to preserve the community character,
alongside the landscapes associated with
them, knowledge systems and biological and
cultural diversity, while striving to promote
innovative and sustainable approaches to the
development of tourism in rural destinations.
57 countries submitted 130 applications to
receive the prestigious title. The final list of
winning villages is to be presented by the
United Nations on January 20, 2023.
Winning this international recognition is
expected to encourage an increase in tourism
and the development of Israel's rural areas in
general, especially the one near the winning
village of the Lower Galilee. The announcement
conference took place in Saudi Arabia in
February 2023.
