Jaffa's Main Mosques
Mahmoudiya Mosque is the largest and most
important mosque in Jaffa. Located in the
northeastern part of Old Jaffa, near the Clock
Square and Jaffa Promenade, it's the third largest
mosque in Israel, after the Al-Aqsa Mosque in
Jerusalem and the Cave of the Patriarchs in
Hebron. The mosque is well-maintained and
renovated, and serves as an active prayer house.
Mahmoudiya Mosque, established in 1812, was
named after the Ottoman Sultan, Mahmud II.
